The journey of the Snowmass Alpaca fiber began with a precious load of 24 bales 6,480 lbs. of fiber transferred from Sandpoint Idaho U.S. to Nepal. The bales were loaded onto a truck container and then sealed at the Snowmass Alpaca Ranch, Sandpoint, ID in the Fall of 2012. After the container arrived in Singapore, the vessel was further transferred to the port of Kolkata, India by sea. The bales cleared Indian customs and were transferred by rail to Birgunj, Nepal. In Birgunj, they then cleared Nepalese customs and were loaded into a truck and transferred to Kathmandu, Nepal. At present, for production purpose the fiber is stored in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Nepal a suburb of the capital and a historic ethnic Newar community.

This is the first time ever that the Nepalese people have ever worked with Alpaca fibers in rug and tapestry production. This is a historic moment for the “Alpaca” industry and the beginning of a wonderful relationship.

The art of rug weaving is an important industry in Nepal supporting the lives of many traditional artisans. Nepal has been manufacturing high end hand-knotted rugs for over a century now.

Advantages of Alpaca fiber:

  • Natural with extreme softness.
  • Highly durable.
  • Hypo-allergenic and lanolin free.
  • Comes in 20 plus natural colors.
  • Far less shedding than other wool fibers.
  • Easy to clean.

Our Alpaca Collection is made of natural Alpaca fibers harvested in the U.S. In addition, we have also blended a portion of the Alpaca fibers with pure Silk to further give a dynamic look to this collection. The Alpaca fibers were washed and carded in Nepal for production. The designs were developed in Kentucky, U.S. in collaboration with local artists and designers. The rugs and tapestries are 100% hand-knotted and hand carved.

There are many quality Tibetan rugs and tapestries in the market but this collection is truly one of a kind. There is nothing in the market at present that competes with this collection. One of our Alpaca collection rugs and tapestries can truly bring magic to your home or office .
